Can we start work later in the day?
It sounds like a simple question- but when you’re in the moving business, the answer isn’t always straightforward. There are a lot of variables to consider: daylight hours, weather, traffic, and even how quickly the temperature drops once the sun goes down.
To show how much these factors can change, take a look at these two photos. Both were taken at 5pm, with a moving crew finishing up for the day- one the height of summer, and the other in the middle of winter. The time’s the same, but the setting couldn’t be more different:
Spot the difference:
- Lighting: The summer scene is filled with warm, natural light, while the winter image shows the early onset of dusk
- Surroundings: Clear sites and vibrant greenery in the summer contrast with bare trees and muted tones that blend into the cool winter night sky
- Crew Clothing: Lightweights and light clothing for summer comfort vs layered, insulated gear for winter warmth
- Work Environment: Summer allows for longer, more flexible working hours; winter demands earlier starts and tighter scheduling
While it’s possible to begin work later in the day, seasonal changes in daylight and temperature can make earlier start times more practical and efficient- especially when ensuring moves are completed safely and without rushing.
Planning a move? Book your start time with daylight in mind. A little extra morning light can make your move smoother, safer, and a lot less rushed- no matter what season you’re in.
